Second-grade students will master standards-based language and vocabulary skills through engaging hands-on center activities. Each of the 12 centers focuses on one skill aligned in a format that is accessible and motivating for all types of learners.
 
 These portable language centers help teachers to:

  • Completing sentences using irregular verbs in the past tense, and writing sentences using irregular verbs in the past tense
  • Using adjectives and adverbs to complete sentences
  • Producing, expanding, and rearranging simple and compound sentences
  • Identifying correct capitalization of holidays, product names, and geographic names in sentences
  • Using apostrophes in contractions and possessives
  • Using sentence context as a clue to the meaning of a word or phrase
  • Matching words with prefixes to definitions
  • Making compound words and matching to pictures to show word meaning
  • Sorting and writing sentences to identify real-life connections between words and their use

Each easy-to-assemble center provides a hands-on activity with a written practice activity, as well as:

  • correlations and targeted skills
  • full-color center mats and task cards
  • an overview with lesson objectives
  • a student direction page that explains the center activity
  • a center checklist to record each student’s progress
